How to create a certificate template

Go to Memberships › Certificates, click New and choose a ready-made template or Blank Certificate. In the editor set the orientation, background, text, images, badge and signature, name the certificate at the top and click Save. You can then attach it to a course or send it manually to a contact.

Updated on

Before you start

  • You need access to Memberships and the certificates area in your account.
  • Have your logo, background image (optional), the signer's name and your brand colors handy.
  • Decide the format: A4, US Letter or a custom size, portrait or landscape.
Where to find it

Memberships › Certificates › New

Step by step

Create the template

  1. In the left menu, open Memberships and click Certificates.
  2. Click New.
  3. Choose your starting point:
    • Certificate Templates: pick one of the ready-made designs and click Confirm. The template is ready to edit.
    • Blank Certificate: start from an empty canvas.

Build the design

  1. Under Layout, choose Portrait or Landscape and, optionally, a frame. To remove the frame, click it again in the right bar. Decide the orientation first: changing it later undoes the edits you've made.
  2. Under Background, pick a color or gradient, upload an image (or paste its link), adjust the opacity, or apply a pattern in the color you want.
  3. Drag the Header or Text element onto the canvas, click to type, and use the top bar for font, size, type (heading, paragraph) and color. Shortcuts: Ctrl/Cmd + B (bold), Ctrl/Cmd + I (italic), Ctrl/Cmd + U (underline).
  4. Drag the Image element to add your logo: upload the file or paste the link and adjust the opacity.
  5. Drag the Badge element and pick one of the available seals.
  6. Drag the Signature element, choose the font style and type the signer's name.
  7. To resize any element, select it and drag a corner or edge. Hover over it to highlight it before clicking. Use the copy and delete icons to clone or remove elements.

Save

  1. At the top, enter the certificate name.
  2. Click Preview to see the final result.
  3. Click Save, then Back. The template appears on the Templates tab; from the three-dot menu you can preview, edit or delete it.

Tips

  • You can paste text from another document: formatting is cleaned up automatically.
  • Create one template per certificate type (course completion, attendance, module) and reuse it across courses.
  • The badge builder runs on the same engine: if you've already built a badge, the editor works the same way.

Common problems

  • I switched from portrait to landscape and the design broke → Changing orientation undoes your edits. Pick the orientation before you start building the design.
  • The background image from a link doesn't show → The link must point directly to the image file and be public. Alternatively, upload the file from your computer.
  • I can't find the template I saved → Click Back and open the Templates tab in Certificates.
  • I keep selecting the wrong element → Hover to see which element highlights before clicking, and use the clone and delete icons to reorganize.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have several templates?

Yes. Create as many as you like; each course can use a different template.

Is the student's name filled in automatically?

Yes. When the certificate is issued, the contact's details are applied to the template; you don't need to type the name into the design.
