How to create a course with modules, lessons and videos

Go to Memberships › Courses › Products, click Create New › Start from scratch, enter a title, description and thumbnail, and click Create Course. In the editor, use the course map to add modules and lessons with video, audio, text or files, and publish each lesson when it's ready.

Before you start

  • You need access to Memberships in your account.
  • Have your content ready: videos (up to 5 GB each), text, PDFs and a thumbnail image for the course.
  • Plan the structure: which modules (categories) and which lessons go in each one.
Where to find it

Memberships › Courses › Products › Create New

Step by step

Create the course

  1. In the left menu, open Memberships and click Courses.
  2. Open Products and click Create New.
  3. Choose Start from scratch.
  4. Enter the course title and description, and upload a thumbnail if you like.
  5. Fill in the available settings and click Create Course. The course opens in the editor.

Organize modules and lessons

  1. On the left is the course map: it works like a table of contents. Expand or collapse modules to focus on one part.
  2. Click + Add Content next to a module (or in the top-right corner) to create a lesson, a quiz, an assignment, or import content from another course.
  3. Drag modules and lessons to put them in the order students should follow.
  4. Click a lesson to edit it on the same screen, without leaving the map.

Add content to a lesson

  1. Give the lesson a title.
  2. Add the video in one of these ways:
    • Upload the file from your computer (videos up to 5 GB).
    • Import from Media Storage: reuse a video or audio file already in Media Storage without uploading it again.
    • Embed Media: paste the iframe embed code from a YouTube, Vimeo or Loom video (or SoundCloud, Wistia, Spotify or Mixcloud audio) and click Embed.
  3. Write the lesson text and attach files for students to download.
  4. Optionally pick the video thumbnail: upload an image or choose a frame from the video itself.
  5. Save the lesson and change its status from Draft to Published. Only published lessons are visible to students.

Review and publish

  1. Use Preview to see the course as a student would.
  2. Make sure every module and lesson is published.
  3. Then create the offer in Courses › Offers to grant access (see the article on offers).

Tips

  • For videos you can upload .srt subtitle files, one per language; students pick the subtitle in the player.
  • The same video in Media Storage can be used in several lessons and courses.
  • In the course Settings, the learner experience controls let you turn on or off auto-start of the first lesson, auto-play of the next lesson and auto-completion of lessons.
  • Some button names may vary slightly depending on your account version.

Common problems

  • The video upload fails → Make sure the file is under 5 GB and in a supported video format. For large files, upload to Media Storage first and import it into the lesson.
  • A student can't see a lesson → The lesson is in Draft or Locked, or has drip scheduling set. Change the status to Published or review the drip settings.
  • The embedded video doesn't show → Use the platform's official iframe code (on YouTube: Share › Embed) and make sure the video is public or shareable.
  • The import from storage option is missing → You need to be in the lesson editor (create or edit), and your user needs permission for Media Storage and Memberships.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add audio instead of video?

Yes. A lesson accepts uploaded audio files, files imported from Media Storage, or audio embedded from supported platforms.

Can I copy lessons from a course I already have?

Yes. In + Add Content choose Import from another course and select the lessons, modules or the entire course.
