Updated on
Before you start
- The course must already exist in Memberships › Courses › Products.
- Decide your policy: comments open on every lesson, only on some, or closed.
Where to find it
Memberships › Courses › Products › (open the course) › Comments
Step by step
Set comments per module or per lesson
- Open Memberships › Courses › Products and click the course.
- Click the Comments section.
- To apply to a whole module, select the category and choose the state: Enabled, Hidden or Locked. Every lesson in that module takes that state.
- To fine-tune lesson by lesson, open the category and choose the state for each lesson.
- Use the product filter to switch to another course without leaving the screen.
The three states mean:
- Enabled: the comment box shows, existing comments are visible and students can post new ones.
- Hidden: the comment box doesn't show and existing comments are hidden.
- Locked: existing comments stay visible, but students can no longer post.
Moderate comments across all courses
- Under Products, click Manage Comments.
- On each comment, use the visibility dropdown: User Only (visible only to you and the student who wrote it) or Public (visible to all students).
- To delete, select the comment and click Delete.
- To recover a deleted comment, open the Deleted tab, select it and click Restore.
Tips
- Reply to comments regularly: feedback is part of learning and improves course completion.
- Students get an email when their comments receive a reply; you can turn those emails on or off in the course's notification preferences.
- To close the discussion on an old lesson without losing the history, use Locked instead of Hidden.
Common problems
- Students don't see the comment box → The lesson or module is Hidden. Under Comments, switch it to Enabled.
- Students see comments but can't post → The state is Locked. Switch it to Enabled.
- A comment disappeared → It was deleted or is marked User Only. In Manage Comments, check the Deleted tab or change the visibility to Public.
- I changed the module but one lesson is still different → That lesson has its own state set. Open the category and adjust that lesson.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reply to a comment directly in the lesson?
Yes. In the members area, the course creator replies inside each lesson's thread; you can also manage everything under Manage Comments.
Are comments private by default?
It depends on the state you set. With Enabled, comments are public to the lesson's students; you can switch a comment to User Only under Manage Comments.
