Before you start
- By default, the account sends through the Elooo System email service, which needs no setup. Only connect your own SMTP if you already have a sending provider (SendGrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES, Postmark, Zoho, Google Workspace…).
- Have your provider's SMTP details at hand: host, port, username and password or API key. You'll find them in your provider's dashboard.
- The sender address must be authorized/verified with your provider.
- With your own SMTP, some deliverability tools from the Elooo System email service are no longer available, such as creating a sending domain in the app, risk assessment, bounce classification, inbox placement testing, the spam score checker and blacklist monitoring.

- Save. The service appears in your list of services.
- On the service's row, click Set as active and confirm.

Switch back to the Elooo System email service
- In Settings › Email Services › SMTP Service, click the Elooo System email service (the default one).
- Click Set as active. The SMTP services you added stay saved for later.
Tips
- Common values: Gmail
smtp.gmail.com(port 587 or 465, with an app password); SendGridsmtp.sendgrid.net(port 587, usernameapikey); Zohosmtp.zoho.com(port 587). Always double-check in your provider's dashboard. - You can save several SMTP services, but only one can be active at a time.
- Switching services only affects future emails.
Common problems
- The SMTP connection fails → Check the host, port, username and password. If one port is blocked, try the other (587 or 465).
- I use Gmail and get an authentication error → With 2-Step Verification on, you must use an app password created in your Google account, not your regular password.
- Emails aren't going out through SendGrid → Verify your domain or sender inside SendGrid and use
apikeyas the username. - Contacts' replies don't show up in Conversations → Check Enable reply on the active SMTP service.
- Emails fail with a different sender → Your provider only accepts authorized senders. Use the configured address or create a verified alias with your provider.
Frequently asked questions
Can my contacts see which SMTP provider I use?
No. They only see the From Name and From Email you set up.
Can I use a free @gmail.com address as my SMTP?
It works for testing, but it isn't recommended for bulk sending: Gmail caps daily sends, and bulk emails from free addresses tend to land in spam.
