Updated on
Before you start
- Have your contacts imported into Contacts and, ideally, organized with tags or Smart Lists.
- For good deliverability, have a verified sending domain and a sender on that domain.
- Make sure your emails include an unsubscribe link.
- Only send to contacts who agreed to receive your emails.
Where to find it
Marketing › Emails › Campaigns › New
Step by step
Create the campaign
- In the left menu, open Marketing and click Emails.
- Open the Campaigns tab and click New.
- Pick a template from the library (you can search and preview) or start with a blank template. You can also start from one of your own templates: in Templates, open the template's three-dot menu and choose Create Campaign.
- The email opens in the builder. Drag in elements (text, image, button, divider, footer) and click each one to edit it.
- Fill in the Subject, the preview text and the sender (From Name and From Email).
- Use Custom Values to personalize, for example with the contact's first name.
- Click Save.
Send a test
- In the builder, open the three-dot menu and choose Test Email.
- Enter the sender and the address that should receive the test.
- Click Send Test Email and check the email on both desktop and phone.
Send or schedule
- Click Send or Schedule.
- Choose your recipients: contacts, tags or a smart list.
- Choose whether to send now or schedule it for a date and time.
- Check the tracking options (opens and clicks).
- Click Review and Send.
- The campaign status changes from Sending to Sent. Click the campaign to see its stats (delivered, opened, clicked, bounced and unsubscribed).
Tips
- Short, honest subject lines (under about 50 characters) work best on mobile.
- Balance text and images: if images don't load, the message should still make sense.
- For large lists, send in batches instead of all at once.
Common problems
- The test email shows "An error occurred, please try again" → Look for broken custom values (a missing
}or three{{{), check that addresses are typed correctly (for example, no comma instead of a dot) and that From Email is an actual email address, not a name. - Some contacts didn't get the campaign → Contacts whose email is marked invalid (bounced) or who have email DND turned on don't receive sends. Check the details in the campaign stats.
- Campaign emails are landing in spam → Review your sending domain, sender, list and content. See the article on emails going to spam.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a template and a campaign?
A template is the reusable email design. A campaign is a specific send of that email to a group of contacts.
