How to take contactless payments on your phone (Tap to Pay)

In the Elooo System mobile app, open Point of Sale, enter the amount and a note, tap Charge and have the customer tap their contactless card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on your phone. Stripe must be connected in the web version first.

Updated on

Before you start

  • Stripe must be connected in the web version under Payments › Integrations. Otherwise the app shows "Stripe not connected".
  • Install the Elooo System mobile app and sign in with your user.
  • Compatible phone: Android 8 or later with NFC; iPhone XS or later on iOS 16 or later (it doesn't work on iOS beta releases).
  • The feature is available in the United States. In other countries it only works through the app's beta program, if open for your country.
  • Make sure the location set in the app matches your account.
Where to find it

Mobile app › Point of Sale

Step by step

  1. Open the mobile app and tap Point of Sale.
  2. Enter the amount to charge.
  3. Tap + Note and describe the sale (e.g. "Initial consultation"). The note stays attached to the transaction.
  4. Tap Charge (the button shows the amount).
  5. Wait while the app connects to the phone's reader.
  6. If you like, add a tip: pick one of the suggested amounts, Custom or No tip.
  7. Ask the customer to hold their contactless card, their phone with Apple Pay or Google Pay, or their watch against the back of your phone.
  8. When you see Approved, Payment Successful with your business name and a transaction ID, the charge is done and the money goes to your Stripe account.

Tips

  • No PIN, signature or swiping needed, just the tap.
  • Keep your phone on the latest stable OS version.
  • Every charge appears in Payments › Transactions in the web version, with the note you entered.

Common problems

  • The app says "Stripe not connected" → Connect Stripe in the web version under Payments › Integrations and reopen the app.
  • I can't see Point of Sale or can't charge → Check the location set in the app and whether the feature is available in your country (outside the US, only through the beta program).
  • The phone doesn't detect the card → Turn on NFC in your phone settings, remove a thick case and ask the customer to hold the card closer to the back of the phone.
  • It doesn't work on my iPhone → You need an iPhone XS or later on iOS 16 or later, and not an iOS beta release.

Frequently asked questions

Does the customer get a receipt?
