How to publish Instagram Reels and Stories from the Social Planner

Go to Marketing › Social Planner › New Post › Create New Post, pick your Instagram professional account and, under Content Type, choose Reel (one MP4/MOV video, 9:16, 3 s to 15 min) or Story (up to 10 images or videos, no text). Then post now, schedule, or save as a draft.

Before you start

  • The Instagram account must be professional: Reels work with a Business or Creator account; Stories only with a Business account. Personal accounts can't publish through the planner.
  • The account must be connected to the Social Planner (direct Instagram connection or through Facebook).
  • Prepare the Reel video: MP4 or MOV, 9:16 aspect ratio, between 3 seconds and 15 minutes. For the thumbnail, an image up to 8 MB.
  • For Stories, have the files in your media library: images up to 8 MB and videos under 60 seconds.
Where to find it

Marketing › Social Planner › New Post › Create New Post › (Instagram account) › Content Type

Step by step

Publish a Reel

  1. In the left menu, open Marketing and click Social Planner.
  2. Click New Post › Create New Post.
  3. Under Post To, pick your Instagram Business or Creator account.
  4. Under Content Type, choose Reel.
  5. Upload one video (a Reel accepts a single video; images are not supported).
  6. Write the caption and, optionally, add a custom thumbnail and a first comment.
  7. By default the Reel goes to both the feed and the Reels tab. To publish to the Reels tab only, turn off the share-to-feed option.
  8. Choose Post Now, Schedule or Save for Later (draft). If scheduled, the Reel appears under Scheduled Posts.

Publish a Story

  1. Click New Post › Create New Post.
  2. Under Post To, select only Instagram Business accounts. If you also select other networks, the Story option won't appear.
  3. Under Content Type, choose Story.
  4. Click Upload image or video and add up to 10 images or videos.
  5. You can't add a caption, text, stickers or tag people through the planner (an Instagram limitation for third-party tools). If you need those elements, add them in the Instagram app itself.
  6. Click the arrow next to Post to publish now, schedule or send for approval, or Save for Later to keep it as a draft.

Tips

  • Instagram counts captions in URL-encoded characters: emojis and some symbols count as more than one. If a caption is near the limit, shorten it to avoid failures.
  • Use the automatic first comment for your link, since links in the caption aren't clickable.
  • Prepare a series of Stories for a launch or event and schedule them all at once.

Common problems

  • The Reel video is rejected on upload → Check the format (MP4/MOV), duration (3 s to 15 min), file size and 9:16 ratio, and that the account is still connected with the right permissions.
  • The Story option doesn't appear → You selected another network besides Instagram, or the account isn't a Business account. Leave only Instagram Business accounts selected.
  • The post failed with "caption too long" even under the limit → That's Instagram's encoded character count. Cut down on emojis and special characters.
  • I want a Reel with several images or videos → Not supported: a Reel takes a single video. For several images, use a regular carousel post.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Facebook connected to publish Reels?

Not necessarily. The planner supports both the direct Instagram connection and the Facebook-linked connection; use whichever applies to your account.

Do Stories work on Creator accounts?

No. Due to an Instagram limitation, Stories through the planner only work on Business accounts.
