How to choose the voice and language of your Voice AI agent
In AI Agents › Voice AI › Agent List, open the agent, pick the Language in the agent details (or Multilingual for English and Spanish in one agent) and click the name of the voice in use to open the Library: filter by language, accent and gender, listen with Play, click Save Voice and then Save.
Updated on
Before you start
- Have your voice agent created in AI Agents › Voice AI.
- Decide your callers' main language. To serve English and Spanish callers with one agent, there's a Multilingual option (for that language pair only).
Where to find it
AI Agents › Voice AI › Agent List › (open the agent) › Agent Details › Language and Voice
Step by step
Set the language
- Open AI Agents › Voice AI › Agent List and click the agent.
- Under Agent Details, find Language.
- Pick the language (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, among many others).
- For an agent that handles both English and Spanish, choose Multilingual: the agent replies in the caller's language and can switch mid-call.
Choose the voice
- Click the name of the voice in use to open the voice selector.
- On the Library tab, use the filters: Language, Accent, Gender and High Quality Only. You can also search by voice name.
- Click Play on each voice to hear it and compare it with the current voice pinned at the top.
- If the agent is Multilingual, pick a voice compatible with both English and Spanish.
- Click the voice you want, then Save Voice.
- (Optional) Under Voice Model, leave it on Auto or pick a model; Auto selects the best one for the agent's language.
- Click Save in the top-right corner.
Test it
- In the Test Your Agent panel, make a test call and listen to the greeting and replies.
- If the agent is Multilingual, test in English, in Spanish, and switching mid-conversation.
- Retest whenever you change the language, voice or greeting.
Tips
- The voice only changes the sound: instructions, actions and responses stay the same. You can switch voices as often as you like; the change applies as soon as you save.
- Don't add language instructions to the agent's prompt that conflict with the Language setting; rely on the setting.
- Review the initial greeting after changing the language so it stays consistent.
Common problems
- The AI's accent sounds off for my callers → Filter the library by Accent and pick a voice from the right region (for example, American or British English).
- The Multilingual agent only replies in one language → The chosen voice isn't compatible with both languages. Pick a multilingual voice and save.
- I changed the voice but calls still use the old one → You skipped Save Voice in the selector or Save on the agent. Do both and test.
- I need two languages other than English and Spanish → Multilingual covers that pair only. Create one agent per language and use agent transfer based on the language requested.
Frequently asked questions
Does the chosen voice apply to inbound and outbound calls?
Yes. The same voice is used on all of the agent's calls.
