How to fix WhatsApp error 135000 (generic error when sending a template)
Error 135000 shows up when a template fails for a reason Meta does not disclose. Review the variable values (no emojis, wa.me links, symbols or empty fields), confirm the send matches the approved template and, if it persists, delete the template and recreate it under a new name in Settings › WhatsApp › Templates.

Before you start
- WhatsApp must be connected in Settings › WhatsApp and the template must be approved.
- You need permission to create, edit and delete WhatsApp templates.
- This error is "generic" on purpose: Meta does not say what caused it. Sometimes it is a false positive from Meta's anti-spam system and hits templates that were working fine with no change on your side.
- There is no single guaranteed fix; work through the steps in order, from simplest to most drastic.
Where to find it
Settings › WhatsApp › Templates › affected template
Step by step
1. Review the variable values
- Open the workflow, bulk send or conversation where the template goes out and look at what is filled into each variable (
{{1}},{{2}}…). - Remove anything Meta does not accept from the variables: emojis, wa.me links, symbols such as
#,$,%and&, very long text, HTML or Markdown formatting, and empty values. - Keep plain text only: names, dates, numbers and short phrases. Links only if the template was approved with a URL variable.
- Make sure the contact field used in the variable is filled in (a blank name becomes an empty value).
2. Confirm the send matches the approved template
- In Settings › WhatsApp › Templates, open the template and count its variables.
- Confirm the send fills the same number of variables and that no part is missing (header, body, buttons).
- Confirm you are using the right template in the right language; a recently edited template may differ from what the workflow sends.
3. Delete and recreate the template
- Copy the template text somewhere safe (or take a screenshot).
- In Settings › WhatsApp › Templates, delete the affected template.
- Click Create template and rebuild it with the same content but a new name. Do not reuse the old name.
- Submit it for approval and wait for Meta's answer (it can take up to 24 hours).
- Once approved, swap the old template for the new one in your workflows and campaigns, then run a test send.
4. If it still fails
- Contact Elooo System support with: the template name, the WhatsApp number used, when it started failing, whether it worked before, and what changes you made. If you have the full error text, send it too.
Tips
- Test every template with real values on a test number before sending at scale.
- Avoid copy that looks like spam or phishing: exaggerated urgency, odd links, requests for personal data.
- Keep variables short and simple; that is the most common cause of this error.
Common problems
- Template worked and stopped working with no changes → Meta false positive. Delete the template and recreate it under another name.
- The error only happens with some contacts → One of those contacts' variables has an emoji, a symbol or is empty. Fix the contact data.
- Recreated it with the same name and it still fails → Use a different name; the old name may keep the block.
- Fails right after editing the template → The send is using the old variable layout. Update the workflow or campaign.
Frequently asked questions
Can I recreate the template with the same content?
Yes. Only the name has to change. Once approved, point your workflows and campaigns to the new template.
