How to ban members and review reported content

Under the group's Members, click the three dots next to the person and choose Ban from group: they're out and can't rejoin. To see what members have reported, open Settings › Reported content and choose Keep or Remove for each post or comment.

Before you start

  • You must be the group owner or an admin.
  • Know the difference: remove takes the person out of the group but they can request to join again; ban takes them out and keeps them from coming back.
  • Make the group rules known (in a pinned post, for example) so members know what's worth reporting.
Where to find it

Memberships › Communities › Groups › (open the group) › Members › (three dots) › Ban from group

Step by step

Ban a member (on the web)

  1. Open Memberships › Communities and enter the group.
  2. Click Members.
  3. Find the person and click the three dots next to their name.
  4. Choose Ban from group and confirm. They're removed immediately and can no longer join or request to join.

Ban a member (in the mobile app)

  1. On the community home page, tap Manage (admins only).
  2. Tap Members.
  3. Tap the three dots next to the person and choose Ban from group.

Review reported content

  1. On the web, open the group Settings and click the Reported content tab. In the app, tap Manage › To Review.
  2. Read each reported post or comment.
  3. Choose Keep (it stays published) or Remove (it's deleted).
  4. If the person keeps it up, ban them under Members.

How a member reports

  1. From the three dots on a post or comment, they choose Report.
  2. They see a message confirming the content was reported. Admins are notified by email, in the app and by push notification.

Tips

  • Besides manual reports, the group has automatic moderation: in the settings you can register words, phrases or domains that hold a post back before it's published.
  • Use remove for minor cases and ban for spam, harassment or repeat violations.
  • In a paid group, banning a member doesn't cancel their subscription on its own. Check Payments › Subscriptions if you need to cancel it.

Common problems

  • I removed someone and they're back in the requests → Removing doesn't block new requests. Use Ban from group.
  • I'm not getting reported-content alerts → Check your account's email and push notifications and make sure your user is a group admin.
  • I can't find the Reported content tab → Only owners and admins see it, inside the group Settings.
  • I deleted a reported comment but the member keeps posting similar things → Removing content doesn't restrict the person. Ban them or add the terms to automatic moderation.
