How to limit a coupon to one product, price or variant
Go to Payments › Coupons, create or edit the coupon and, in the product selection, expand the product to choose whether the discount applies to the whole product, all prices or variants, or only specific prices or variants. At checkout the coupon only applies to the option you picked.
Updated on
Before you start
- You need permission to manage Payments.
- The product must already exist in Payments › Products, with its prices or variants set up.
- Know which option you want to discount: the whole product, one price (e.g. annual only) or one variant (e.g. size M only).
Where to find it
Payments › Coupons › Create Coupon (or open a coupon › Edit)
Step by step
Limit the coupon
- In the left menu, open Payments and click Coupons.
- Click Create Coupon, or open an existing coupon and click Edit.
- Fill in the code, discount type (percentage or amount) and value.
- In the product selection area, pick the product the coupon applies to.
- Expand the product and choose one of the options:
- Full product: covers every current price and variant plus any you add later.
- All prices or variants under the product.
- Specific prices: check only the prices to discount.
- Specific variants: check only the variants to discount.
- Save the coupon.
- Test it on the checkout you'll use (funnel, form, store, payment link or booking page) by picking the right option and one outside the coupon.
Use the same selection in a workflow
- In Automation › Workflows, create a workflow with the Coupon Code Applied or Coupon Code Redeemed trigger.
- In the filters, pick the product first; only then do the price or variant filters appear.
- Pick the price or variant and save: the workflow only fires when the coupon is used on that exact option.
Tips
- Don't duplicate products just to discount one option: limit the coupon to the price or variant instead.
- If you pick the full product, prices and variants you add later are covered automatically.
- You can check several variants or several prices on the same coupon.
Common problems
- The coupon doesn't work on another variant of the same product → That's expected: it only applies to the variants or prices checked on the coupon. Edit the coupon and check the missing ones.
- The coupon applies to everything → It's set to the full product. Edit it and pick specific prices or variants.
- The price or variant filter doesn't show in the workflow → Pick the product first in the trigger; the price and variant filters depend on that choice.
- Old subscriptions still get the old discount → Existing subscriptions and past transactions keep the previous rule; new ones follow the updated setup.
