Gift cards

How to redeem a gift card and check its balance

Customers redeem a gift card at checkout with the code they received. Your team can also apply it when collecting payment (Record Payment › Charge a Card, Charge Now or Create Subscription) by entering the code in the Gift Card field and clicking Apply. Balances are under Payments › Gift Cards › Gift Card Orders.

Updated on

Before you start

  • At least one gift card must have been sold or sent to a customer.
  • The card must be active, not expired and have an available balance.
  • For your team to redeem it, you need permission to manage Payments.
  • To collect any remainder, have a saved card for the customer or new card details ready.
Where to find it

Payments › Gift Cards › Gift Card Orders (balance) · Gift Card field under Record Payment › Charge a Card

Step by step

Redemption by the customer

  1. The customer opens one of your checkouts that accepts gift cards: funnel, form, store, payment link, invoice or booking page.
  2. They enter the card code (or open the link they received) and the balance is taken off the total.
  3. If the balance doesn't cover it, they pay the difference with another available method.

Redemption by your team when collecting payment

  1. Open one of the payment flows that accept gift cards:
    • Payments › Orders › open the order › Record Payment › Charge a Card;
    • Payments › Invoices & Estimates › open the invoice › Record Payment › Charge a Card;
    • Contacts › open the contact › Charge Now;
    • Contacts › open the contact › Create Subscription, or Payments › Subscriptions › Create Subscription;
    • Calendars › appointment › Payments › Collect Payment › Charge a Card.
  2. In the Gift Card field, enter the customer's code and click Apply. The system validates the card and shows the available balance.
  3. Check the amount applied: if it covers the total, nothing else is charged; if it covers only part, the balance is used first and the difference remains.
  4. If there's a remainder, pick a saved card or add a new card to collect the rest.
  5. Review the summary and complete the payment. The gift card's balance updates automatically.

Check the balance and status

  1. Under Payments › Gift Cards, open Gift Card Orders.
  2. Open the card to see the recipient, delivery method and date, amount, expiry, remaining balance and status (Scheduled, Active, Inactive). The code is hidden for security.

Tips

  • On the transaction, the amount paid with the gift card shows separately from the amount paid by another method.
  • A card scheduled for future delivery can already be used if the customer has the code.
  • Test-mode cards only work on test checkouts.

Common problems

  • "Invalid code", "expired" or "no balance" → Check the code under Gift Card Orders, along with the expiry and remaining balance. An expired card can't be used.
  • The gift card covers the full amount but a credit card is still required on the subscription → The gift card only pays the initial amount; the following recurring charges use the payment method attached to the subscription, so one is needed.
  • The Gift Card field doesn't appear → You're in an unsupported flow: point-of-sale (POS) charges and subscriptions scheduled for a future date don't accept gift cards.
  • The customer used the card on a test checkout → Live cards only redeem on live checkouts. Ask them to use the live link.

Frequently asked questions

Can a gift card be used across several purchases?

Yes. Whatever is left stays as the remaining balance and can be used on another purchase until it runs out or expires.

Is a card sent for free redeemed the same way?

Yes. Cards sent without payment are redeemable on every checkout, in full or in part.
